London based Cinematographer, Videographer and Photographer

KATE LOVRINOV

My interest in cinematography stems from my younger years doing film photography, noticing and capturing artistic frames in human actions, cradled by its surrounding environment.  After a half decade of building my eye through the still lens, I wanted to add breath to the scenes I was creating. I wanted to shoot a swaying tree’s shadow dancing across the still figure of a pensive woman sitting on a bench, or the journey of a single drop of sweat gliding down the face of an individual, all of which I believe I’d best exhibit in moving image. I fell in love with capturing the individuality of humans whilst also encapsulating universally relatable scenes within the same frame. I am moved by connection and empathy as much as I am to aesthetic environments and dramatic contrast.

Growing up and moving countries every few years, I have adopted an urge to seek connection with the vast cultures of the world, whilst upholding and nurturing my Croatian roots and identity. My life experience has taught me how to adapt to the visions of others and simultaneously augment that vision with my own. My background in ballet and contemporary dance has inspired me to find beauty in the art of movement, whether it is in a performance, or the way someone holds their fork when they eat. This transfers to my eye for detail in my cinematography (aided by my studies in visual art), as well as the dynamic camera movements I’m evolving over my growing experience in the industry.

I am one year out of film school, working freelance as a DOP, 1st AC or camera trainee for music videos, commercials, as well as narrative and documentary films.
